Community Messengers set action plan for 2012

“If you teach us, we can teach other parents,” is the idea behind Community Messengers. To move forward, the group then developed this 2 step action plan.

Step I: Expand our knowledge --- invite The topics for the next six minths will include:
      Healthy minds
      Healthy homes - Lead poisoning 
      Healthy eating (nutrition)
      Personal budgeting
      Employment/job training

Step II: Expand our message---“Who we are and what we do.”
Community Messengers will volunteer in city-wide activities.

Community Messengers, sponsored by the Bridgeport Alliance for Young Children, is a grassroots communications program that trains volunteers to help their neighbors find the services and supports available for Bridgeport families.  “Community Messengers provides a forum for communication and problem solving throughout the city and offers opportunities for family events and parenting workshops."

Trunk or Treat at your child's school- Community Messengers can help

2010 Trunk or Treat      Trunk or Treat

Community Messengers, a grassroots communications program for Bridgeport families, will assist parents who want to hold  a "Trunk or Treat" event at their children's school.  The event allows children to go from trunk to trunk in the school parking lot  instead of going door-to-door.  "The first Trunk or Treat at Dunbar School last year was a huge success and we hope that more schools will hold a similar event next Halloween!"   

    

 

Kick Off to Kindergarten!

Kick Off to Kindergarten, a program for children who have not had any formal preschool experience, was held from July 1- July 22, 2011 from 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. at Barnum and Cesar Batalla School.  The program gave 72 children three weeks of focused activities that introduced them to books, numbers, and how to play in groups.  Parent Workshops that provided materials and activities for families to use to continue to prepare the child for Kindergarten in August.  

Registration for the 2012 Kick Off to Kindergarten will be held next May!
